1.  Gifts of quilts are not limited to members of quilts groups, individuals can take part. Groups can include children’s/youth groups, schools, church organisations or just a circle of friends. The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to become involved – not just quilters – any one who can hold a needle.

2. There is no limit to the number of quilts any group or individual can make and send.

3. The quilts can be of any design except the Olympic logo, rings and torch. There are many other restrictions on the use of Games logos, trade marks and designs; words and the bespoke London 2012 font, known as 2012 Headline. Please see the games web-site www.london2012.com for other restrictions on logos and words, please ensure that you view these restrictions before starting any quilts. You will need to go to the home page and in the search bar type in 'using the brand'. This will take you to a page with all the downloads you need to look at. If you have problems please contact us and we can email or post you the pages.

We have a pdf version of the logos, branding and restrictions so please email us if you would like a copy sent to you.

There are Listed Expressions too which are restricted. "Listed expressions are determined as - any two words in list A or any word in list A with one or more of the words in list B"

List A

Games, Two Thousand and Twelve, 2012, Twenty-twelve

List B

For example, if you wanted to put wording on your quilt you COULD NOT USE
"Games 2012" or   London Summer Games or Gold Medals 2012 etc.

You can not use ANY of the olympic logos or trade marks or images.

4. All Quilts should be a minimum of 1 metre square up to 54" x 78" and comprise of the top, wadding and the backing.

5. Quilts must be quilted either by hand or machine, no tied quilts, and a hanging sleeve, 4” wide must be attached to the back of each.

6.  Each quilt must be signed by the quilt maker(s) on the back by means of a label. It would be nice to also include with the quilt(s) a letter, photograph or even a message for the recipient.

7.  Your “gift of a quilt” will not be required until November 2011, details of where to send the quilt(s) to will be confirmed nearer to the date. Please register your gift as soon as possible, see Registration Details page.

If the number of quilts exceeds those that we need for A Gift of Quilts they will be given, with the makers permission, to Project Linus and the "Special Olympics".

Q. Can I use the colurs red, white and blue? In the Olympic booklets it says these should not be used.

A. As a this project is non-commercial and you are using fabric and  creating a textile to be given as a gift you may use these colours as you would in any patchwork design.

Q. Can I use circles? It says that we can not use the Olympic rings.

A. Yes, you can use circles.  It is the official Olympic logo of the rings which is banned.  There are many patterns that use circles, half circles etc.

Q. I live in the EU and would like to make a quilt for you. Is that acceptable?

A. If you are a British national living or working abroad (anywhere in the world) we welcome your quilt.

Q. I would like to be able to print off the requirements for the quilts but it comes out the wrong size.

A. Please email shaz.quilts@btinternet.com and an A4 Word version can be sent right back to you.

Q. I have heard about the Quilts of Valour Foundation who are making quilts for service personnel in the USA and UK. Will any of your quilts go there?

A. We have asked this organisation if they would like to have any surplus quilts for this very worthy cause. Their reply was as follows "Thank you for considering Quilts of Valour. At the present time this seems so far away as it would be 2011 before anything would materialise. We are still hopeful that the conflict in Afghanistan will be over by then. Our needs are for quilts made for the soldiers and at this time we are not seeking quilts which have been made for other purposes. In particular we are very concerned about pictures and emblems that would be inappropriate for someone who has recently been injured".   If you are interested in working for this cause their web contact is www.QOVF.org
